Freddy Fender Humanitarian Award
"The START Center is very proud to announce, in association with the Freddy Fender Museum, the first annual Freddy Fender Humanitarian Award ceremony. The Center was the flagship charity for Freddy while he was still with us. We want to honor Freddy's legacy and create an opportunity to recognize others that have made a difference in our community," states Rhoda Reyes, Center Director.
"This will be a special and very desirable ticket to have as we grow the event every year. Eventually, we expect this to be one of the premier annual functions in the Valley. Few people in our time have achieved what Freddy was able to do. From his humble beginnings to his success as an internationally-known entertainer, Freddy never forgot where he came from. I feel so privileged to have know him and called him my friend," states Ron Rogers, START Center Board President.
The first annual Freddy Fender Humanitarian Award ceremony will be held at the Los Ebanos Preserve on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
The keynote speaker will be Domingo Samudio (aka "Sam the Sham"), a long-time friend of Freddy, who collaborated with him on the movie soundtrack of "The Border" with Jack Nicholson.
